Welcome/Introductions and apologies:  JM welcomed all to the group. 

 

Approval of minutes from last meeting: Approved, no amendments required.

 

Actions of minutes from last meeting: 

 

·         Surgery logo:  KM confirmed surgery logo is now on all surgery letterheads.

·         Waiting Room TV Screen:  This was installed on 18th September.  The surgery can promote newsletters, local support groups for patients to attend and lots of other useful information for patients.

 

·         Privacy screen for waiting room:  Privacy screens are now in the waiting room around the health kiosk.  JC advised that the leaflets displayed within the area should be removed and placed elsewhere within the waiting room as patients are unable to access them.  Discussion also had re parents wishing to have privacy and reception staff being aware of this. Reception staff to have additional awareness when parent/guardian attending baby 6-8 weeks check.

Updates from practice:

 

·         Collective action by GP Practices’:  Following a vote in favour of collective action within England, KM updated all that the Partners will be discussing what actions they may take going forward.   Although the practice will remain open and patients will be able to still book appointments, some services may be reduced.  JM confirmed he had attended an East Surrey PPG group meeting and this had been discussed.  Some of the actions that may be implemented are:

o   Limit daily patient contacts per clinician to the recommended safe maximum of 25.

o   Serve notice on voluntary services

o   Withdraw permission for date sharing agreement

o   Stop engaging with the e-referral Advice & Guidance

o   Switch off GPConnect Update Record functionality

KM updated all that a meeting with Partners/Practice Management will be taking place for East Surrey Practices shortly.

 

·         National GP Patient Survey Results:  KM updated all that The Hawthorns did remarkably well and shared the results of the survey with the PPG.  The surgery were the fifth most improved surgery in Surrey Heartlands compared with 2023.

 

·         Autumn Flu/COVID Programme:  There will be a large clinic being held at the surgery on Saturday 12th October, 0830 - 1530.  JM kindly offered to volunteer with greeting and directing patients.  VR and JC gave their apologies as already having prior arrangements.  The surgery will also have available clinics during the week as per previous years. KM confirmed we are unsure on what COVID vaccine we will be receiving as yet.

·         RSV Vaccine:  KM updated all regarding the vaccine available to the following cohorts of patients from 1st September as follows:

 

o   Adults turning 75 years old on or after 1st September, who remain eligible until their 80th birthday

o   Adults already aged 75-79 years on 1st September

o   All pregnant women from 28 weeks gestation

 

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major respiratory virus.  RSV may cause a cough or a cold, wheezing, shortness of breath, tiredness and fever. Most cases are not serious and clear up within 2 to 3 weeks.

 

·         Measles:  KM updated all that the surgery had one positive case of measles and the patient had been sitting in the waiting room.  LW completed risk assessment and all patients were contacted who had appointments around this time (LW updated all that the risk assessment confirmed no patients were high risk).  KM updated all that staff had been reminded to continue to follow protocol for suspected measles cases.

 

·         Breast Screening:  KM updated all that following a review of the practice patient population health data, we have identified that the patient uptake for attending routine breast screening was below average.  Patients will automatically receive their first invitation form the national team between the ages of 50 and 53.  Then patients will be invited every three years until the age of 71.  PPG to help with breast screening awareness and campaign messages will be displayed on media screen.  Breast Awareness Month is October.

·         Recruitment:  KM provided the following update on new members of the team the practice have successfully recruited:

 

o   Advanced Nurse Practitioner:   Welcome Inge!  Inge’s working days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

o   Medical Secretary:  Due to Lynn, a longstanding member of the team retiring, we welcome Anna!  Anna’s working days are Monday to Friday.

o   Care Coordinator:  Welcome Wendy!  Wendy’s working days are Monday to Friday 

o   Patient Services Administrator:  Role has been verbally offered and accepted. Hopeful start date will be the beginning of October which then take us to a full team.

 

·         Newsletter:  LW updated all that we will have a quarterly newsletter available on the practice website and in the waiting room.  PPG members to please feedback with any topics of interest that may be beneficial to the patients.

 

·         Car Park:  LW updated all that during school drop off/pick up times, parents are using the surgery car park which leaves patients struggling to find a space. JM advised to contact local school and raise concerns with Head Teacher.  LW to contact.
