Catheter, stoma and irrigation appliances - new prescription service
From 8 September 2025, our practice will no longer be issuing prescriptions for:
- Urology (catheter-related) appliances – including long-term and intermittent self-catheterisation (ISC) catheters, sheaths, and leg/night bags
- Transanal irrigation systems
- Stoma pouches and accessories
Instead, your prescriptions for these items will be managed by a new service called the Surrey Heartlands Appliance Prescription Management Service (SHAPMS). This new dedicated service is designed to streamline the ordering and subsequent delivery of your prescription.
If you are affected by this change, you don’t need to do anything right now. SHAPMS will contact you directly and send you a welcome letter explaining the new process and how they will support your prescription needs. The dispensing and delivery of your appliances will remain the same.
From 8 September, you can contact the service in the following ways:
- Freephone: 0800 138 8630 - Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm (excluding bank holidays)
- Email: prescriptionservice.bhg@nhs.net
